Emmys: Coughlan, Scott Shine

For those fond of fashion, recently there have been abundant chances to see stylish outfits both on and off red carpets. Festivals in Venice and Toronto gave film stars their moment to shine, while New York Fashion Week drew in the industry insiders and style enthusiasts to the city’s streets, parties and runway events. At the MTV Video Music Awards, it was time for the music megastars to take centre stage.

This past Sunday, the Emmys provided the TV industry the chance to strut their stuff. The event was held a little earlier than usual, with the last ceremony occurring in January. Still, the resplendent display of the red carpet remained unaffected despite the shorter gap.

Celebrities such as Selena Gomez, Quinta Brunson, and Sheryl Lee Ralph emitted an air of refined elegance with clinging black gowns that presented a balance of concealment and revealment. Taking it up a notch, Nicola Coughlan, Ayo Edebiri, and Kristen Wiig selected captivating colours and metallic tones. Andrew Scott, Lionel Boyce, and Dan Levy, accompanied by his father Eugene Levy as a co-host, opted for contemporary twists on the traditional tuxedo.

Fashion varied widely at the 76th Emmy Awards’ red carpet, but 16 outfits stood out as significantly noteworthy, both favourably and unfavourably.

The spotlight was directed at TV stars such as Nicola Coughlan and Andrew Scott on the Emmys red carpet. Top awards were scooped by Shōgun, The Bear, and Baby Reindeer, though Andrew Scott was left without a win.

Nicola Coughlan, prominent in Bridgerton and Derry Girls, chose a sequined silver gown with a body-hugging cut. Her sleekly styled hair further amplified her poised appearance. Jennifer Aniston, a veteran of more than forty years in the acting industry, exhibited her red carpet wisdom with a simply shaped, beaded gown from Oscar de la Renta. Ayo Edebiri opted for a dress that was brilliant in hue, reflecting aquatic shades.

The Bottega Veneta dress decorated with black, orange and yellow sequins, sported by the star of The Bear, bore a striking resemblance to a koi fish. Anna Sawai, the Shogun actress, maintained this year’s red carpet trend by donning a pulsating red Vera Wang piece. Her choice of minimal accessories enabled her vibrant dress to be the centre of attention.

Andrew Scott, the actor from Ripley, was seen showing off a loose and relaxed style with his revealingly unbuttoned Vivienne Westwood shirt and distinct facial hair. Kristen Wiig, the actress from Palm Heights, looked stunning in her intricately woven Oscar de la Renta gown, which bore an elegant similarity to tin foil.

Greta Lee from The Morning Show oozed an air of grace reminiscent of a swan with her wind-blown Loewe dress and perfectly brushed hair. Lily Gladstone of Under the Bridge managed to merge different styles elegantly, wearing her black velvet Rodarte dress paired with an etched-copper chest plate and a coordinated bracelet that glistened under camera lights.

Refraining from the traditional style, Lionel Boyce from The Bear favoured a black nylon windbreaker instead. His ensemble was completed by a quirky Peter Pan collar. Selena Gomez, who has been the recipient of past fashion criticisms, kept it classic and chic in a black Ralph Lauren halterneck piece on the Emmys red carpet.

Laverne Cox, the host of Live from E!, chose a vintage Alexander McQueen dress that she described succinctly as “glamour, glory, gold”. Setting a creamy tone, Dan Levy, an actor and co-host of the Emmys was seen in a black Loewe suit and a silky white top with a distinctive asymmetrical neck cut. Kali Reis rounded out the fashion moment with a powerful one-two punch.

The actor from True Detective and trained pugilist blended components of men’s attire, specifically a dark plum dinner jacket, with elements of women’s fashion, including a co-ordinating straight skirt, to craft a look that was truly striking.

Kathy Bates will always be our resilient Molly Brown. Dressed in a navy and black beaded gown by Armani along with hair styled in a pulled-back coiffure, the actress, who is set to feature in an updated version of Matlock, evoked the opulence of her unforgettable character from Titanic.

Hannah Einbinder was the picture of elegance. Dressed in a muted pink Greek-style Louis Vuitton dress, the Hacks actress looked positively regal, the outfit complimenting her pale auburn locks splendidly.

Ilona Maher is all set to hit the dance floor. The American Olympic rugby competitor donned a blue strapless gown from Oscar de la Renta, sporting a peplum skirt that confidently hinted at her upcoming part in the new season of Dancing With the Stars in the US.
