An elderly woman in her 80s succumbed to her injuries following a devastating car collision in Dublin on Wednesday. The accident, which took place on Hillside Drive in Rathfarnham around 10:30am, involved the woman’s car colliding with several stationary vehicles. Tragically, the woman, who was the sole passenger and driver of her vehicle, did not survive the crash.
Additionally, a man, who was seated in one of the stationary vehicles at the time, sustained injuries. Although his injuries were not life-threatening, he was transported to St Vincent’s hospital for further medical attention.
Authorities notified the coroner, who will conduct a postmortem examination. The accident site remained sealed off into Wednesday afternoon, facilitating the Garda Forensic Investigators’ examination of the scene.
The Gardaí are requesting anyone who may have observed the accident to contact Rathfarnham Garda station, either directly at 01 666 6500 or through the confidential Garda line at 1800 666 111. Reports can also be made at any Garda station.
This unfortunate tragedy has elevated this year’s death toll on the nation’s roads to 129, a figure alarmingly analogous to the number of fatalities in 2023 over the same period.
