Elderly Woman Dies in Donegal Crash

A serious two-vehicle crash in Co Donegal this past weekend resulted in the death of a woman who had been grievously injured. The woman, an octogenarian known as Elizabeth Cave who lived in Donegal Town, was one of the three people injured during the accident which took place in the southern area of the county, namely Inver, on Sunday evening. This crash occurred not long after another fatal accident on the Inishowen Peninsula, claiming the lives of two youthful cousins.

The family of Ms. Cave disclosed the news of her demise on Cavern Design’s social media page, a family business that will be shutting down until the coming week. The remembrance post relayed: “Our dear mother, Elizabeth Cave, has left us due to the severe injuries she sustained from the unfortunate accident at Inver this past Sunday.”

The deceased Ms. Cave was preceded in death by her spouse, Stephen, and her brother, John. She is survived by her four children, Sarah (Bob), Vera (Mike), Rachel (Tony) and Richard (Louise), two sisters, Marion Burgess and Eleanor Hort, brother James Coburn, and many nieces, nephews and other family members. The other two individuals involved in the crash, a man in his fifties and a woman in her forties, were conveyed to Letterkenny University Hospital for the treatment of their injuries, which are not believed to be fatal.

The unfortunate incident of Mrs. Cave’s death tally’s this year’s fatal accidents in Donegal’s roads to 11, already exceeding the total number of car-related fatalities recorded last year.

A funeral for Kían Dawson, a 16-year-old boy who also tragically perished in a crash at Quigley’s Point on the previous Saturday evening, will be held on Thursday. Eoghán Dawson, Kían’s 20 year old cousin, unfortunately succumbed to his injuries yesterday at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast.

The local head of the Garda Traffic Corps, Inspector Seamus McGonigle, has urged all drivers to remain alert at all times.
