A fatal knife attack in the wee hours of Thursday in Finglas, a northern district of Dublin, has claimed the life of a man in his fifties. Following the assault, a man in his thirties was apprehended by the Gardaí and is currently in custody at a Garda station based on Section 4 of the 1984 Criminal Justice Act.
The incident, which occurred around 12.30am on Hampton Wood Way, on St Margaret’s Road, was responded to by the Gardaí. The victim was initially transported to Mater Hospital from the crime scene but unfortunately, was declared dead later on. The post-mortem will be conducted on his body at the Dublin city mortuary, on Thursday.
The area where the deadly assault occurred is being preserved to enable a thorough technical examination. The Gardaí in Finglas have launched an investigation into the incident and are urging potential witnesses to come forward.
