On Wednesday, an elderly man in his 70s suffered severe injuries when a home in the town of Longford was targeted with gunfire. According to the authorities, the violent incident happened at approximately 7:50 pm in the Springlawn locality.
The victim was promptly transported to Mullingar’s Midland Regional Hospital. While his injuries were described by Gardaí as critical, they were thankfully not life threatening.
Sources from the local community reported that the wrongdoers shot through the property’s main window before swiftly escaping the scene using a car.
Seamus Butler, a local council member residing in Longford, expressed his strong denouncement of such aggressive acts and voiced hope for justice to be served. “The law means nothing to these individuals,” he commented. Butler, a representative from the Fianna Fáil party, characterized Springlawn as usually serene and without any serious incidents for an extended period.
A technical investigation of the premises where the shooting took place has been conducted as the scene was cordoned off by Gardaí on Wednesday evening. Though the probe is still active, the spokesperson declared that no additional details can be released at the current time.
