Following a quad bike accident on Achill Island, Co Mayo, a gentleman was tragically confirmed dead in the early hours of Sunday afternoon. The individual, who was septuagenarian, had been operating the quad bike on the entry road to Purteen Harbour when catastrophe struck. Tragically, he became trapped when the vehicle tipped over. Emergency services, including the local police, firefighters and coastguard members, quickly converged at the location. Later in the Sunday afternoon, road detours were established. As a cruel reminder of the dangers on our roads, this incident brings the total of fatalities on the nation’s roads this year to 93.
