“Egan and Lawlor Win Ireland Titles”

Keith Egan, a golfer from Carton House, elegantly outplayed local champion David Brady, securing the West of Ireland Amateur Open Championship at County Sligo on Tuesday. Egan, a 31-year-old whose roots trace back to Strandhill across the bay, showcased impressive composure in the final stretch, finishing the game with a calm par on the 16th which contributed to his 3&2 victory.

“I am overjoyed, words cannot express its worth,” shared Egan. “It makes every moment of practise, patience and years of participation worthwhile, despite the harsh weather. It is all redeemed by this victory.”

Earlier in the day, Egan dominated his game against Ross Latimer from Clandeboye, beating him 3&2. On the other side, Brady grappled through six extra holes to overcome Paul Coughlan from Castleknock.

Another triumph for Carton House golfers came when Brendan Lawlor conquered the first-ever ISPS Handa G4D tournament. Lawlor, a 27-year-old golfer from Louth who also claimed the inaugural G4D Open title last year at Woburn, kept his cool during the tough back nine, finalising the day with a 73 to support his initial 74, earning himself a three-shot triumph over local player, Alan Gaynor.
