Following a string of intended searches on Friday, two individuals were apprehended in Dublin as police retrieved tablets reaching a value of €1.976 million. These operations were aimed at slowing down the primary pipeline of illegal substances into Dublin’s city hub.
Over 10,000 Zopiclone and Alprazolam tablets, with a net worth of €20,000, got confiscated from a vehicle in south Dublin that was halted and searched by An Garda Síochána. Subsequently, a series of other explorations across the capital took place.
In another operation, approximately 965,000 tablets of both Zopiclone and Alprazolam, with a price tag near €1.93 million, were discovered at a business establishment located in the southern district of the city. Additionally, a separate raid in the city’s heart revealed a cache of over 13,000 such tablets, amounting to more than €26,000.
A couple of additional explorations in Dublin’s western and southern areas uncovered roughly €4,500 in cash and evidence connected to drug movements across the region. Overall, the total worth of the recovered substances stands at €1,976,000.
The two detained men, in their 30s and 50s, were taken into police custody at different Garda stations, held under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act of 1996. The younger male has been charged and is scheduled to face the Dublin courts on Saturday evening.
Chief Superintendent Patrick McMenamin stated that this substantial drug seizure by the Dublin Crime Response Team is a part of current probes aimed at combating drug trade at a street level in the city centre. These actions are continued under the banner of Operation Citizen, and they signify An Garda Síochána’s endeavour to ensure public safety and interrupt the crimes carried out by those who inflict harm to our society.
