Eddie Dunbar of Ireland (representing Team Jayco Alula) successfully retained the lead to secure a victory in the 20th stage of the Vuelta a Espana on the recent Saturday. This marks Dunbar’s second stage win and was achieved amidst the intense competition from three-time winner Primoz Roglic, who finished third and consequently augmented his total lead.
Dunbar, the previous winner of the 11th stage, set off chasing the leading contender Pavel Sivakov with an approximate distance of five kilometres till the end point of the year’s final Vuelta ascent to Picón Blanco. Despite being pursued by a group, he managed to outpace the Frenchman to secure his position.
Finishing second was Spain’s Enric Mas, followed by Roglic, who had taken leadership of the red jersey post his victory in the Friday’s stage. Roglic’s overall lead is now at a robust point, holding a lead time of two minutes and two seconds in comparison to Australia’s Ben O’Connor.
The concluding stage on Sunday is a solitary time trial that spans 24.6 kilometres in Madrid. This puts Roglic in the favorable position to secure his fourth champion title.
