World Superbike team Supersonic Racing announced last month that they would be withdrawing from the championship at the end of the season, however team owner Danilo Sonicini has managed to sell the team’s entire technical package to Andrea Petricca, who will debut the team in World Superbikes under the name Ducati Rome with Soncini sponsoring the team through his Box&Box company.

At the present it has not been announced whether the’ll keep Maxime Berger who had a two year contract with Supersonic or if they’ll field another rider.
Pressi release: In the beautiful surrounding from the Salsomaggiore Terme, two team managers and two good friends who share both the passion for racing, have signed an important agreement for 2012.
Following the withdrawal of Supersonic Racing Team in SBK, said in mid-September, the new Ducati Rome, with Team Manager Andrea Petricca, has reached an agreement with Danilo Soncini, to buy the whole “technical package” from the Supersonic Team.
It is the same package which allowed Luca Scassa last year and this year Maxime Berger, to obtain good results.

This goes beyond simple “sale of materials”, in fact, this transaction is all the passion and friendship the two shares as team manager since the days they spend in the Italian championship.
Andrea Petricca: “After four years racing and winning in Superstock and the Italian Championship, I am proud to take up the Supersonic Team baton that has achieved excellent results in SBK.
I warmly thank my friend Danilo Soncini for the trust in us and to allow us to continue the team, adding her to our brand.
Now we must commit ourselves to the maximum, not only to avoid losing the experience of the Supersonic Team, but also to live up to the new challenge.
“Danilo Soncini: “I am extremely pleased to deliver all our material to my friend Andrea, I known him for many years and I know how much passion he shares for the racing world and about to enter into the highest category of production-based series, SBK.
I shared so many emotions with Andrea in the past and the idea to pursue a path with Ducati makes me very happy, beyond any financial negotiations.
In some ways it is, as if my project was born 2 years ago, continue now through his structure.
That’s why I accept the invitation of Andrea in linking the brand of my company “BOX & BOX”, as a sponsor of Ducati Rome.
Therefore, a “good luck” to Andrea and his team for a future star in SBK.
