An additional officer from a Garda unit situated in Dublin is scheduled to appear in court this Tuesday, following charges linked to an investigation spearheaded by the Garda anti-corruption team. This follows the recent arrest and subsequent charging of another officer from the same unit, amidst an investigation that has been proceeding for a significant period.
The entire investigation has resulted in the suspension of four officers from the unit, all of whom are based in the Dublin area, with the suspensions pending the resolution of the criminal probe into their alleged misconduct.
The Garda’s anti-corruption team has been at the helm of an investigation targeting a particular Dublin-based unit, a point clarified in a statement by Garda headquarters on the impending court appearance of the latest officer charged. Since the start of the investigation, four officers from An Garda Síochána have been suspended.
The Garda headquarters have confirmed one of these officers will face charges in the Criminal Courts of Justice this Tuesday, without disclosing further details, stating that the criminal investigation is still underway and therefore they will not be providing additional commentary at present.
