“Dublin Dance Festival 2024: Behind-Scenes”

The Dublin Dance Festival of 2024 began on the 14th of May and is set to continue until Saturday, 25th of May, presenting a multitude of exhilarating performances.

Taiwan’s Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, a pinnacle of Asian contemporary dance, inaugurated the festival last Tuesday and Wednesday at the Bord Gáis Theatre. This enchanting performance blended traditional Taiwanese folk melodies, Taoist chants, and modern electronic music into a captivating musical fusion. The vivid light projections and electric dances painted an immersive image of the vibrant hustle and bustle of Bangka, Taipei’s most historic district.

Last week, The DanceScapes Labs, located in Foley Street, Dublin 2, as well as the Project Arts Centre, hosted a four-day workshop. Creatives from Ireland and France, specialising in hip hop, gathered to hone their skills both individually and collectively under the supervision of esteemed artists from the French Collectif FAIR-E. Prominent local hip hop figures such as Jessie Thompson, Jessie O’Reilly, and Tobi Balogun led the sessions.

In a unique collaboration with Waterways Ireland, the CoisCéim Dance Theatre is set to stage Bench, featuring artist and choreographer Sibéal Davitt. There would be complementary outdoor displays of the work at noon on Friday, May 24th, and Saturday, 25th, offering an intriguing opportunity to engage with dance.
