In the Champions League, Borussia Dortmund triumphed over PSV Eindhoven with a 2-0 victory, ensuring them a place in the quarter-finals for the first time in three years with a 3-1 win over two legs. Goals from Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus secured the win for Dortmund on Wednesday.
Sancho, currently on loan from Manchester United, scored his second goal in consecutive matches by artfully placing his shot through the legs of an Eindhoven player and off the post. Despite failing to reach the quarter-finals since 2007, Eindhoven brought a stronger game in the second half. Sub Hirving Lozano almost scored with a powerful shot from 25 meters that hit the post.
Johan Bakayoko attempted to bypass Dortmund’s defence, managed by Mats Hummels, but failed to outsmart goalie Gregor Kobel in the 70th minute of the game. Dortmund faced a minor setback when a shot by Niclas Fuellkrug was declared offside. However, they bounced back when Reus scored during stoppage time, just as Eindhoven’s Luuk de Jong made a near miss.
