Caelan Doris has been chosen to lead Ireland in their second Test against South Africa, with Peter O’Mahony moved to the bench. This is the second time the Leinster number eight has been appointed as the starting captain, the first being in the Six Nations triumph against Italy earlier this year. Tadhg Beirne, previously a lock in the 27-20 first Test defeat, has been repositioned to a blindside flanker, taking O’Mahony’s place. James Ryan, a substitute in the last match, has been promoted to the starting line-up as a lock.
There are four new starters, including Ryan. Conor Murray takes Craig Casey’s scrumhalf role, with Casey absent after a concussion. Rónan Kelleher fills in for the injured Dan Sheehan at hooker, and Garry Ringrose aligns at 13.
There’s a slight positional shift for Robbie Henshaw, moving from 13 to 12. Meanwhile, Bundee Aki, previously troubled by a shoulder injury, will not participate in the match.
Bench inclusions come in the form of Rob Herring, Caolan Blade and Stuart McCloskey. The Irish team includes Jamie Osborne, Calvin Nash, Garry Ringrose, Robbie Henshaw, James Lowe, Jack Crowley, Conor Murray, Andrew Porter, Rónan Kelleher, Tadhg Furlong, Joe McCarthy, James Ryan, Tadhg Beirne, Josh van der Flier and Caelan Doris across various positions. While substitutes include Rob Herring, Cian Healy, Finlay Bealham, Ryan Baird, Peter O’Mahony, Caolan Blade, Ciarán Frawley, and Stuart McCloskey.
