Doriano Romboni dies after tragic accident at Sic Supermoto Day

Former grand prix rider Doriano Romboni has tragically succumbed to the injuries he sustained during a practice session of the second annual Sic Supermoto Day, in memory of the late Marco Simoncelli at the Latina kart circuit in Italy.
In circumstances eerily similar to the accident that claimed Simoncelli in 2011, Romboni also lost control of his bike and he too clung on before swerving back onto the track and into the path of Gianluca Vizziello who could not avoid him.

Romboni was resuscitated for over ten minutes by the EMTs at the circuit as they tried to stablize his situation before he was helicoptered to the Santa Maria Goretti hospital in Latina where he underwent emergency surgery, but he would die just a few hours later from his severe head injuries.
Born December 8th 1968, Romboni aka as Rambo debuted in the 125cc category in 1989 with Honda, and just one year later would score his first two victories in the year that Loris Capirossi won the title, before moving on the the 250cc class where he would race for the next five years.

His best season was 1994 where he would contend the 250cc championship title against the Roman Emperor, Max Biaggi.
Twowheelsblog would like to extends its deepest condolences to Romboni‘s three daughters, his family and friends.
