A woman identified as Patricia McBrearty tragically lost her life in a road accident in Co Donegal. The incident, where Ms McBrearty, aged in her 80s, was hit by a truck, happened in the St Johnston village on a Friday afternoon. A local resident described the impact of the tragedy as a “shadow of darkness over the village”. The widely loved mother and grandmother resided a short distance from the accident scene on Church Street, near the Main Street of the village, where the mishap took place around 2pm.
Ms McBrearty sadly becomes the fourth casualty on the roads in Donegal in a timeframe of six days. The death toll on Donegal’s roads this year has now reached 12, two more than the total of the previous year.
Earlier this week, two young men, Kían Dawson-Kirk, 16, and Eoghán Dawson, 20, also relatives, lost their lives when their car crashed into a wall and landed in a field at Cross in Quigley’s Point on the previous Saturday night.
In another dreadful incident that occurred last Sunday morning, Elizabeth Cave, aged 87, was killed in a two-car crash at Inver in south Donegal. Since the crash, a man has been charged with reckless driving in connection to the case.
