Donegal Collision Leads to Arrest of Young Motorist

Following a fatal crash that occurred at Quigley’s Point in Donegal, a lad suspected of driving under the influence has been apprehended. The accident, which occurred Friday night, resulted in the death of Donna McDermott, who was riding in the back seat of one of the two vehicles involved.

Donna’s mother Mary, the driver of an Opel Mokka, and her partner Robert were both immediately taken to Altnagelvin Hospital in Derry for treatment of injuries that weren’t life-threatening. It has now been confirmed by Gardaí that the driver of the other car, a Volkswagen Beetle in blue, was taken into custody subsequent to failing a breathalyser test at the scene of the accident. The 19-year old, whose identity remains undisclosed, walked away unhurt.

Formerly working for Centra in Moville, Donna’s death marks the fifth within a span of 13 days on the roads of Donegal. A service in her memory will be held tomorrow.

The toll from fatal accidents on Donegal’s roads currently stands at 13, showing an increase of three from last year’s figures. Gardaí have issued a plea for witnesses of the crash, as well as for anyone who might possess video footage from the time of the incident, to step forward. Those with any relevant information are requested to get in touch with Buncrana Garda station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda station.
