Deputy prime minister Dominic Raab made Britons mistaken after declaring that hospitalisations had shot up to 250 from the Omicron variant. On Tuesday, he incorrectly declared the figures now in hospital with the new Covid variant was 250.

Then he modified later, “I know we’ve had one death and nine people who are hospitalized with [omicron].”

A Whitehall official told that the newest figure stays 10 hospital cases with omicron, pending a further update from the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA).

The figures conveyed by the UKHSA on Monday showed 10 people in hospital with omicron. Health secretary Sajid Javid also spoke on Monday there were 10 hospitalisations with the variant.

Covid restrictions in Christmas and New Year

Meanwhile, Mr Raab stays with additional Covid restrictions being considered for Christmas or New Year to deal with the rise in new variant cases.

“These issues are always discussed. But we have got plan B which is required over the Christmas period.”
