Umbria, situated in the heart of Italy, is famed for Orvieto, its most recognized wine. Historically, the majority of wine crafted here possessed a semi-sweet flavour, making it a favourite within Italy. Nowadays, most are inclined towards a drier palette, including the highlighted Orvieto below.
Chianti is synonymous with the celebration of Italy’s rich wine heritage. The most superior wines, generally, originate from the Classico subregion where Sangiovese is the predominant grape.
Highlighted is the Orvieto Classico 2022 by Poggio Civitelle, Italy. This white wine is crisp and light, boasting fruity tones of pear, a hint of citrus and a dry finish. Consume this wine alone or accompany it with a salad or grilled plaice. Priced at €11.99, with an alcohol volume of 12.5%.
Also featured is the Ser Tosco Chianti Classico Riserva 2020. A smooth wine with nuanced plum notes, tobacco, and a touch of earthiness. The traditional pairing is steak, but it could also compliment chicken, pork or some robust cheeses. Priced at €10.99, with an alcohol volume of 13.5%.
