Dessie Dolan is set to resign from his position as manager of Westmeath

It has been declared that Dessie Dolan is set to resign from his position as the head coach of Westmeath’s senior football squad. The former county All-Star led the team for a period of two years after previously acting in the capacity of a selector in the preceding year. Dolan’s tenure saw notable victories, including securing the Tailteann Cup in the previous year and an elevation to Division Two.

However, the team’s progress was hindered by unexpected defeat against Wicklow at the start of the Leinster Championship, leading to subsequent losses in the All-Ireland series where they were grouped with strong teams like All-Ireland finalists Armagh and Galway, alongside the titleholders of the league, Derry.

Dolan revealed that he will not be pursuing a further term for the 2024/2025 season with Westmeath senior footballers. He highlighted that despite the highs and lows, they as a managing group have always strived to upkeep the utmost standards for their players. Continuing, he expressed optimism in the potential of the county’s players, as reflected in their performances during the All-Ireland series.
