A serviceman from the Irish Defence Forces, known as Shane Scanlon from Ballyvoloon’s Cooline Heights, Cobh, County Cork, was presented at an extraordinary session of the Cork District Court in relation to the acquisition of cocaine, with an estimated worth of over €25,000, at the Collins Barracks on Old Youghal Road in the city.
Mr. Scanlon, aged 34, faces two charges. One, he is accused of keeping a regulated substance, specifically cocaine, on Old Youghal Road in Cork with the intention to sell or distribute it on 27th of March. Scanlon is also charged with illegal possession of cocaine on the same date and location. Both alleged infringements breach the Misuse of Drugs Act.
During a brief hearing on Thursday evening, Garda Derry O’Brien from the Anglesea Street Garda station presented the evidence of arrest, charge, and caution. Judge John King granted bail and postponed Mr Scanlon’s case until his following court date on July 15th.
