Data Centres vs. Residential Homes?

Dear Editor,

I came across an article regarding the east coast wind farms (News, September 16th), which suggested that a particular project could reportedly supply energy to half a million homes in Ireland, producing a total of 700 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy. Considering the sluggish pace of home constructions and Ireland’s energy usage pattern, I believe it might be a more representative statement to say that this energy could be used to operate three to ten data centres instead.

Kind regards,
Brian McArdle,
