After a man attacked her in the heart of Copenhagen on Friday, Denmark’s Prime Minister, Mette Frederiksen, was seen leaving the scene without any apparent injuries, as per a local citizen who spoke to Reuters.
The assault took place at Kultorvet square, Copenhagen on Friday evening, following which the man was apprehended by authorities. Frederiksen’s office confirmed the incident, stating that the Prime Minister was taken aback by the shocking incident, without providing additional details.
Refusing to share more information, police informed through a post on social media platform X that they had taken a man into custody and were investigating the matter.
An eye witness, Soren Kjergaard who works as a barista at the square, told Reuters that the Prime Minister seemed somewhat perturbed as her security detail shepherded her away post the assault.
This attack comes as Denmark was set to hold the European elections two days later. In a related incident a few weeks prior, an attempt was made to assassinate Slovakia’s prime minister Robert Fico, leaving him severely wounded.
Danish Environment Minister, Magnus Heunicke, while speaking on a platform X, expressed that the attack on Mette has left everyone close to her quite shaken – Reuters. More information is awaited.
