“Daily Guide: Irish Athletes’ Paris Olympics”

The 2024 Olympic Games will commence on Friday, July 26th, with the opening ceremony scheduled for 7pm. The following day, Saturday, July 27th, will be filled with a medley of sporting events. Nhat Nguyen will participate in the men’s singles badminton match against Misha Zilberman at 6:30pm. In rowing, Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch will compete in Men’s Double Sculls beginning at 10:30am, followed by Zoe Hyde and Alison Bergin in the Women’s category at 11am.

The discipline of equestrian sports will be represented in the Three Day Event Dressage by the likes of Austin O’Connor, Sarah Ennis, and Susie Berry, starting at 8am. Later, at 9:30am, the Men’s Irish hockey team will battle it out against Belgium. From 10am onwards, Rhys McClenaghan will be representing Gymnastics on the Pommel Horse. Ryan Mullen will race against the clock in the Road Race Time Trial cycle event at 3:52pm. The semi-finals and finals of the Men’s Rugby Sevens will occur at 1:30pm.

Round the day off with some Canoe Slalom – Men’s C1 competition will have Liam Jegou from 2pm and Madison Corcoran in the Women’s K1 from 3pm. Finally, in boxing, Dean Clancy will throw jabs in the 63.5kg category against Obada Alkasbeh scheduled at 4.22pm.

Sunday, July 28th will start with Rachel Darragh in Women’s Singles badminton from 7.30am. Zoe Hyde and Alison Bergin in Women’s Double Sculls Repechage will follow with rowing action at 9.10am. Many other rowing events are scheduled for the day, culminating in the Women’s coxless fours at 11.30am featuring Emily Hegarty, Natalie Long, Eimear Lambe, and Imogen Magner.

In the fields of Three Day Eventing and Crosscountry, Austin O’Connor, Sarah Ennis, and Susie Berry will make their appearances from 9.30am. Boxing will feature Aidan Walsh, weighing 71kg, in the Round of 32 against Makan Traore at 10.32am. Grainne Walsh, weighing 66kg, will compete against Anna Luca Mamori at 4.32pm while Jack Marley, will face off Mateusz Bereznicki at 7.32pm. Also, Mona McSharry will compete in Women’s 100m breaststroke, scheduled for 11am.

Matches for Women’s Rugby Sevens include Ireland versus GB at 2.30pm, and South Africa at 6pm. Madison Corcoran competes in the Women’s K1 Canoe Slalom Semi-finals and Finals starting from 2.30pm.

Turning to Monday, July 29th, in Badminton we have Rachel Darragh playing in the Women’s Singles from 7.30am, and Nhat Nguyen playing in the Men’s Singles against Prince Nahal initiating at 8.10pm. Rowing has Ross Corrigan and Nathan Timoney in the Men’s coxless pair repechage at 9.20am, followed by Fiona Murtagh and Aifric Keogh, who also participate in Women’s coxless pair repechage at 9.30am.

Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy will undertake Men’s lightweight double sculls repechage at 9.40am while Margaret Cremen and Aoife Casey take part in Women’s lightweight double sculls repechage at 10am. At that same juncture, a Hockey match will be played between Ireland and Australia.

Boxing heats back up with Dean Clancy in the 63.5kg Round of 16 starting at 10am and Kellie Harrington, weighing 60kg, competes in the Round of 16 at 2.46pm. Equestrian events feature Austin O’Connor, Sarah Ennis, and Susie Berry with Three Day Eventing, Jumping Individual beginning at 10am.

Swimming follows suit with Daniel Wiffen in Men’s 800m Freestyle heats, Danielle Hill in Women’s 100m Backstroke, and a finale featuring Mona McSharry in Women’s 100m Breast all kicking off from 10am. The latter event hosts its final at 7.30pm. Women’s Rugby Sevens are also lined up.

On the agenda for sporting events, Ireland is scheduled to face Australia at 1.30pm, followed by Liam Jegou participating in the Men’s C1 Canoe Slalom, with semi-finals and finals commencing from 2.30pm. That’s all happening on Tuesday, the 30th of July. The day will kick off with Nhat Nguyen and Rachel Darragh competing in Men’s and Women’s Badminton singles respectively from 7.30am. Similarly, as the day proceeds, Zoe Hyde along with Alison Bergin and Philip Doyle paired with Daire Lynch would be on the field for Women’s and Men’s Double Sculls semi-final at 9.50am and 10.10am respectively.

We then have the highly anticipated hockey match versus India at 12.15pm. Meanwhile, Jennifer Lehane will be competing in a Boxing round against Yuan Chang (54kg category) at 11.36am. From 10am onwards, we’ll see Abigail Lyle in Dressage Grand Prix qualifier for Equestrian. Moreover, Women’s Rugby Sevens’ semi-finals and finals are set to begin from 1.30pm. In the Canoe Slalom category, we’ll witness Michaela Corcoran and Noel Hendrick competing in the Women’s C1 and Men’s K1 respectively, with events starting from 2pm.

The day will end with Swimming finals including Daniel Wiffen in Men’s 800m Freestyle and Danielle Hill in Women’s 100m Backstroke, both set to commence from 7.30pm.

Moving on to Wednesday, July 31st, we’ll see Nhat Nguyen and Rachel Darragh back for the Badminton singles matches from 7.30am. The rowing heats continue with Ross Corrigan and Nathan Timoney in Men’s coxless pair semi-final at 9.34am, followed by Fiona Murtagh and Aifric Keogh in Women’s coxless pair semi-final at 9.54am. Then, we have the men’s lightweight double sculls semi-final with Paul O’Donovan and Fintan McCarthy at 10.14am, trailed closely by the women’s equivalent with Margaret Cremen and Aoife Casey at 10.34am. Simultaneously, Abigail Lyle will again take to the field for a Dressage Grand Prix qualifier from 10am. Adding more action to the day, Kellie Harrington will participate in the 60kg Boxing quarter-finals, her match will also start at 10am.

From 10am, Aidan Walsh, who weighs 71Kg, will participate in the 16th round.

The following events are lined up:

For boxing, Grainne Walsh competes in the 66kg round 16 starting at 10 am, while Jude Gallagher will face Carlo Paalam in the 57kg round of 16 at 2.30 pm. Aoife O’Rourke will challenge Elzbieta Wojcik in the 75kg round 16 at 8.52 pm.

In the Women’s C1 semi-finals and finals of the Canoe Slalom, Michaela Corcoran will be participating from 2.30 pm.

On the 1st of August, which falls on a Thursday, Nhat Nguyen competes in the Men’s Singles Round of 16 in badminton from 7.30 am, whilst Rachel Darragh partakes in the Women’s Singles Round of 16 from 5.30 pm.

In Men’s Golf, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry will be on the field from 8 am.

Rowing finals like Women’s Double Sculls with Zoe Hyde and Alison Bergin, Men’s Double Sculls with Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch, and Women’s coxless four with Emily Hegarty, Natalie Long, Eimear Lambe, and Imogen Magner are yet to be confirmed.

The hockey match between Ireland and Argentina will kick off at 12.15 pm.

Additional boxing matches include Daina Moorehouse against Wassila Lkhadiri in the 50kg Round of 16 at 7 pm, and Dean Clancy, Jack Marley, and Jennifer Lehane’s quarter-finals starting at 10 am in their respective categories.

In the equestrian event, Shane Sweetnam, Daniel Coyle, and Cian O’Connor will be part of the showjumping team starting their match at 10 am.

On Friday, August 2nd, Nhat Nguyen partakes in the Men’s Singles quarter-finals in badminton from 7.30 am while Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry continue their golf matches from 8 am. More rowing events are to be announced.

Following is the schedule for the upcoming events:

From 1 pm, the Showjumping team final will feature equestrians Shane Sweetnam, Daniel Coyle, and Cian O’Connor. Boxing enthusiasts can catch Jack Marley in the 92kg quarter-finals from 2:30 pm and Michaela Walsh in the 57kg round 16 combating Svetlana Kamenova Staneva around 2:46 pm. Hockey lovers should not miss Ireland against New Zealand at 4 pm.

On Saturday, the 3rd of August, Badminton will witness Rachel Darragh in the Women’s Singles quarter-finals from 7:30 am. Golf will host Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry kicking off from 8 am.

Cycling enthusiasts should look out for Ben Healy and Ryan Mullen in the Road Race from 10 am, the same time at which sailing begins with Finn Lynch and Eve McMahon in the Dinghy series race. Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove will compete in the Skiff Series race.

Swimming will see a Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay along with Danielle Hill’s Women’s 50m Freestyle, both from 10 am.

With a line-up of thrilling athletic events, the schedule is packed for the day. From 2.30pm onwards, boxing matches featuring Kellie Harrington (60kg semi-finals), Daina Moorehouse (50kg quarter-finals), Grainne Walsh (66kg quarter-finals), Aidan Walsh (71kg quarter-finals), and Jude Gallagher (57kg quarter-finals) will take place. In gymnastics, Michaela Walsh will compete against Svetlana Kamenova Staneva in the 57Kg round at precisely 2.46pm.

On the track, Andrew Coscoran is slated for the 1,500m race at 6.15pm while the 4 x 400m mixed relay final will occur at 7.55pm. Meanwhile, in swimming, Daniel Wiffen appears in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle heats from 10am. In the evening Ellen Walsh and Danielle Hill will compete in the women’s 200m IM final and the Women’s 50m Free semi-finals respectively, both from 7.30pm.

The following day, Nhat Nguyen and Rachel Darragh will play their singles semi-finals in badminton from 7.30am. Golf will feature Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry from 8am. Ciara Mageean and Andrew Coscoran will represent in athletics late evening.

In equestrian, Abigail Lyle will participate in the Dressage Grand Prix final from 9am. Simultaneously, the men’s quarter-final for hockey will begin. Boxing will have Dean Clancy, Jack Marley, Michaela Walsh, Aoife O’Rourke, and Jennifer Lehane, starting their matches from 10am. Lastly, Finn Lynch and Eve McMahon will partake in the sailing dinghy series race from 10am onwards.

Robert Dickson and Sean Waddilove will participate in the Skiff Series Race kicking off from 10am. Megan Armitage will make her appearance in the Women’s Road Race in cycling at 1pm. In swimming, Daniel Wiffen is set to compete in the Men’s 1500m Freestyle Final from 5.30pm, which is also when the Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay final begins, as well as Danielle Hill’s Women’s 50m Freestyle final.

Come Monday, August 5th, Rachel Darragh has a Women’s Singles final in Badminton from 8.45am and Nhat Nguyen will be competing in the Men’s Singles Final from 1pm. In Athletics, catch both Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawdsley in the 400m events at 10.55am while Ciara Mageean goes into her 800m final at 9.45pm.

Diving enthusiasts can look out for Ciara McGing in the 10m Platform event from 9am. In Sailing, both Finn Lynch and Eve McMahon will be in the Dinghy Series race from 10am, the same time as the already mentioned Skiff Series race. Equestrian events will feature Shane Sweetnam, Daniel Coyle, and Cian O’Connor in the Showjumping Individual Qualifier from 1pm.

On Tuesday, August 6th, we have busy morning in Athletics with Ciara Mageean, Sophie O’Sullivan, and Sarah Healy all competing in the 1,500m race at 9.05am. Also, at 10.50am, both Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawdsley will partake in the 400m repechage, followed by Andrew Coscoran who will be competing in the 1,500m final at 7.50pm.

Diving will see Jake Passmore in the 3m springboard event from 9am, with Ciara McGing returning for the 10m platform final from 2pm. Morning also sees the Showjumping Individual final in Equestrian events featuring Shane Sweetnam, Daniel Coyle, and Cian O’Connor from 9am.

The schedule for various sporting events features a lineup of notable athletes. Starting from 10am, we have Finn Lynch and Eve McMahon participating in the Dinghy Medal Race, together with Robert Dickson & Sean Waddilove in the Skiff Series race. The men’s hockey semi-finals are set to commence from 1pm. Track Team pursuit in cycling will be seen at 4.30pm.

In Boxing, we have Kellie Harrington in the 60kg final, Daina Moorehouse in the 50kg semi-finals, Grainne Walsh in the 66kg semi-finals, and Aidan Walsh in the 71kg semi-finals, all beginning from 8.30pm on the night of August 7th.

Come Wednesday, August 7th, the day begins with golf at 8am featuring Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow. Early morning will also see Jack Woolley in Men’s 58kg Taekwondo. Athletics enthusiasts will have multiple events to follow, with Sarah Lavin’s 100m Hurdles at 9.15am, Brian Fay’s 5,000m race at 10am, Mark English’s 800m run at 10.45am, followed by the 1,500m repechage with competitors Ciara Mageean, Sophie O’Sullivan, and Sarah Healy at 11.35am. Rhasidat Adeleke’s and Sharlene Mawdsley’s 400m semi-finals are lined up for 7.45pm.

Jake Passmore will be seen in the 3m springboard semi-final in Diving starting from 9am. Cycling events will feature Kelly Murphy, Alice Sharpe, Mia Griffin, and Lara Gillespie in the Team pursuit heats and finals, scheduled for 12.52pm and 5.57pm. Dean Clancy’s 63.5kg final and Michaela Walsh’s 57kg semi-finals in Boxing will round off the day’s events from 8.30pm.

The day of Thursday, August 8th kicks off with another round of Golf at 8am featuring Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow followed by more athletic events.

Sarah Lavin is to compete in 100m hurdles repechage at 9:35 in the morning. Followed by Mark English in the 800m repechage at 11:00am. At 6:35 in the evening, Ciara Mageean, Sophie O’Sullivan and Sarah Healy will vie in the 1,500m semi-finals. On the hockey field, the bronze and gold matches start from 1:00pm. Jake Passmore will take to the springboard for the 3m diving final beginning at 2pm. In the evening, starting at 8:30pm, the boxing ring will see Aoife O’Rourke for 75kg semi-finals, Jennifer Lehane for 54kg final and Jude Gallagher for the 57kg semi-final.

On Friday, 9th August, Daniel Wiffen will go the 10km open water swimming from 6:30 in the morning. From 8:00am, the golf course will welcome Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow. Women’s 4 x 400m relay takes to the athletic field from 9:40am, followed by Mark English for 800m semi-finals at 10:30am and Sarah Lavin in 100m hurdles semi-finals at 11:05am. At 7pm, Rhasidat Adeleke and Sharlene Mawdsley will compete in 400m final. Alice Sharpe and Lara Gillespie compete in the Women’s Madison, cycling at 5.09pm. Boxing for the evening at 8:30pm includes Jack Marley for 92kg final, Grainne Walsh in 66kg final, Daina Moorehouse for 50kg final and Aidan Walsh for the 71kg final.

On Saturday, 10th August, Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow are back on the greens from 8:00am. In athletics, Mark English is in the 800m final at 6:25pm, Sarah Lavin at 6:45pm for the 100m hurdles final, Brian Fay for the 5,000m final at 8:00pm and Ciara Mageean for the 1,500m final at 7:25pm.

The 1,500m finals will see Sophie O’Sullivan and Sarah Healy competing at 7.25pm. The night will then continue with boxing finals commencing at 8.30pm. Participants include Michaela Walsh at 57kg, Aoife O’Rourke at 75kg, and Jude Gallagher also at 57kg.

Reminder for the events on Sunday, August 11th – Athletics and Cycling. Starting bright and early at 7 am with Fionnuala McCormack taking part in the Marathon. At 10 am, Lara Gillespie will set off in the Women’s Omnium Cycling event. The curtain-closer for this eventful day will be the Closing Ceremony at 7pm.
