Crowds gather for fake parade

A substantial crowd congregated on O’Connell Street in Dublin, drawn by the prospect of a Halloween parade that ultimately did not occur. Details of a significant Halloween parade had been published on myspirithalloween.com, suggesting the event was scheduled to run from Parnell Square to Temple Bar from 7:00 pm until 10:00 pm on Thursday. According to the online information, the misleading parade was purportedly organised by the Galway arts group Macnas, known for holding grand Halloween parades in Dublin in past years. However, no such event was held nor planned for this year. Disheartened onlookers were then urged by Gardaí to depart from the city centre in a controlled and safe manner. A bystander on social media platform X reported – “People waiting for a Halloween parade in Dublin. No Gardaí in view, no official statement, people gathered on the wrong side of the road… Someone certainly orchestrated an elaborate hoax prank.”
