For Cristiano Ronaldo beating the goal scoring record of Hugo Sanchez and Spanish player Telmo Zarra, and becoming top scorer in La Liga tournament adds an extra incentive for the future. The Portuguese star finished the campaign with a total of 53 goals in all competitions, 41 of them scored in La Liga tournament. One of those goals was the match-winning strike against bitter rivals Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, that earned CR7 the first trophy with Real Madrid since his move from Manchester United during the summer of 2009. However, Madrid came up short against Barcelona in the race for the title of the Primera Division and lost the battle in the Champions League semi-finals. Cristiano Ronaldo is well aware of this and knows that his personal success must take a back seat to his team’s failure to overcome the reigning monarchs of Spanish football, Barcelona. Real Madrid’s rich history of success and the club’s loyal fans will demand silverware and more goals from the young Portuguese striker in the future.
