In response to the inquiry raised by Joe Humphreys in his “Some people think animals should have political representation. But which animals?” (Opinion & Analysis, Unthinkable, 7th October), the most evident solution is indeed the elephant.
By providing political acknowledgement to a group that “never forgets”, it seems certain that all electoral constituencies would derive benefit and opportunists or promisers would find it unappealing.
In addition, those congregating in political circles would be increasingly aware of the metaphorical elephant sharing their presence.
