A Covid outbreak has been confirmed in Stone, Staffordshire, where about 200 people were 'packed in' a pub 'like sardines'.
Ten people have been tested positive to Covid after having visited The Crown and Anchor in Stone.
While the Prime Minister affirmed to be “extremely concerned” that a second wave of Covid will soon be hitting the UK a coronavirus outbreak was confirmed in Stone, Staffordshire.
The outbreak was caused by a massive gathering where people were completely ignoring social distancing. Witnesses said the pub was utterly ‘packed’ with people enjoying themselves while drinking extremely close to each other ‘like sardines’. A local resident also filmed the pubgoers packed in the beer garden and affirmed: “If we do have to go into local lockdown, then the pub has a lot to answer for.” People who were at the pub between July 16 and 18 are being urged to get tested. Staffordshire County Council has also confirmed one of the people who tested positive also held a private gathering, spreading the virus further.
Richard Harling, director of public health at the council, affirmed: “It appears to largely be a young adult demographic, young adults in the 18-21 age bracket” “We also want people who have been in close contact with anyone drinking in the pub on that weekend to get themselves tested, as well as people who were out and about in the town and are experiencing Covid-19 symptoms – namely high temperature, new persistent cough or loss of taste and smell”.
The Crown and Anchor posted on their Facebook account: “Due to the overwhelming amount of people visiting the Crown and Anchor on Saturday, we have decided to close this weekend to be able to review our risk assessment in order to deal with the difficulty that we faced with social distancing”. People who have been out during those nights are now being told to get a test in the case any symptom showed up. Also, anyone who has been in contact with the pubgoers is being encouraged to visit the new centre set up at the Crown Street car park to get tested.
