“Coursework and Educators”

Dear Editor,

In light of the letter published on May 4th about freeing students from homework, I would like to extend the conversation by suggesting the same for teachers. It is not uncommon for teachers to find themselves swamped with preparatory work and corrections, which they tend to handle during evenings or weekends due to the hectic pace of the school day.

In addition to this, just like any other professional, we maintain a household, commute to work, prepare and eat meals, need time for physical exercise, and value spending time with family and friends. A fair share of downtime for a leisurely scroll is also deserved. I put forward this plea from Dublin 3.

Sincerely,
Niamh Byrne
