“Costello Prepares for Dublin Test”

Mathew Costello, the vice-captain for Meath, is looking to make his comeback in the Leinster SFC quarter-finals against Dublin at Croke Park this Sunday. Having sat out the previous league round due to a virus, Costello started in the recent provincial championship victory over Longford, but was subbed off at half-time as he still felt unwell. However, the Dunshaughlin-based player has expressed confidence that he’s over his illness and looking forward to face Dublin.

Costello shared during the AIB’s All-Ireland SFC sponsorship launch that it was a recurrence of the previous infection that had made him unwell last weekend. He underscored that some rest and time would help him recover. Although Costello didn’t had much training last week, he was able to play a half of football in the Donegal game which he’s happy about, and looks forward to the rest of the championship.

On the other hand, Pat Spillane jnr of Sligo will not be participating in the entire Connacht SFC championship owing to an injury. He was unable to play in the previous quarter-final victory over Leitrim and will also be sitting out the semi-finals against Galway. Depending on the outcome of that game, Spillane hopes to make it back either for the All-Ireland SFC group stages or the Tailteann Cup. Despite dealing with osteitis pubis and an adductor tear, Spillane’s recovery is nearing its end, and he is hopeful of a return during the group stages.
