Police officers in Cork are in the process of determining whether a violent assault by a group of men on a family home, where a woman and her little ones resided, was a revenging act for a previous shooting incident involving another man in a different part of the city. The officers stationed at Watercourse Road are diligently going through CCTV records hoping they could recognise the gang, which consisted of no less than ten men, that stormed into a property located on Sunday School Lane in Blackpool, and wreaked havoc by crushing doors and windows this past Thursday.
The invaders, brandishing hurleys and baseball bats, subsequently barged into the house, causing terror on a 30-year-old woman who was at home with her kids. The experience left them distinctly traumatised but, fortunately, with no physical harm done. The officers investigating are open-minded as regards the motivation behind this ferocious assault. But they are particularly pursuing the probability of a connection to a separate incident which involved a shooting of 22-year-old male resident in the Mahon area.
The young man sustained an injury from a gunshot to his shoulder at approximately 7:30 in the morning. He was quickly transported to Cork University Hospital where his injury was treated and reported as not life-threatening. He declined to lodge a complaint with the police, and similarly refused to shed any light on the circumstances of his injury.
Police also conducted a search in the vicinity of his home on Ballinure Avenue in Mahon and acquired additional CCTV footage from surrounding locations. The investigation team urges any person who could possibly have information regarding either of the incidents to reach out to them.
The connection between the two mishaps has raised alarm among the authorities, fearing that this may ignite a feud between two antagonistic families. As a precaution, they are looking to increase police presence in both areas to deter any potential escalation or any further troubling incidents from occurring.
