Copenhagen’s Historic Stock Exchange Fire Collapse

Copenhagen’s Old Stock Exchange, a key landmark in the Danish capital, was ravaged by a blaze on Tuesday causing its iconic spire to crumble onto the rooftop. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported.

Local news channels aired live footage of individuals swiftly removing large artworks from the premises to protect them from the rampant flames.

The famous edifice, adorned with a spire formed by the inter-twining tails of four dragons, had been undergoing refurbishment when the fire sprung up. Moreover, despite its name, the Dutch Renaissance style building doesn’t currently host the Danish stock exchange, but is instead the operational base for the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

Witnessing the catastrophe, the Danish Chamber of Commerce shared via X, “We are faced with a disastrous scene. The Bourse is burning.” Following the incident, Copenhagen law enforcement urged city dwellers to refrain from commuting in the central city area. – Reuters.
