Individuals from the general public can freely participate in two meetings held by the Committee for Gaelic, Gaeltacht, and the Gaelic Speaking Community taking place in the city of Galway this Friday.
The initial meeting will host members from Galway with Gaelic and different Gaelic language groups. The meeting’s focal point is ‘Galway City, City of Gaelic: tactics for city development and establishing connections between the city and the Gaeltacht regions of the county’. This conversation will occur in County Hall, Prospect Hill, from 10am to 12pm. To date, it is the first time the joint committee meeting will be taking place outside Leinster House.
In the afternoon, from 2pm to 5pm, there is another meeting on the cards titled ‘Gaeltacht Economy – Strategies for Growing Small Businesses in Rural Spaces’, to be held at the Gaeltacht Centre.
Key figures in the discussion include: Sonia Nic Giolla Easbuig from Ligid Léiriúcháin Production, Cathy Ní Ghoill from the Community Based Cooperatives Association, Tomás Ó Síocháin from the Gaeltacht Authority, France Mac Cionnaith from Glór na nGael and at the helm, deputy chairman of the joint committee, Aengus Ó Snodaigh TD.
“This convention is a valuable opportunity for the joint committee to gather insights from the entire nation’s Gaeltacht populace,” remarked committee chairperson, Deputy Aengus Ó Snodaigh.
“Representatives of Gaeltacht Co-operatives, Chiceanna and Service Towns, as well as Language Planning Officers will be present. We anticipate an engaging, informative and rewarding discourse and a delightful experience as our two facilitators guide us: Gormfhlaith Ní Thuairisg and Páidí Ó Lionáird.”
The conference will be both audio and visual recorded before being aired on Oireachtas TV.
