The coordinators of the renowned Connemara Pony Show in Clifden, Galway County, have declared a postponement for some of their events scheduled for Thursday and Friday due to the potential risk of torrential rain. Activities planned for Wednesday will still proceed, yet equestrian classes specifically set for the succeeding two days have been called off due to flood risk predictions associated with heavy rain.
The show, currently celebrating its 99th year, advises participants for Wednesday’s agenda to be vigilant of the prevailing weather. The Connemara Pony Breeders’ Society, however, confirmed that Wednesday’s programme is set to proceed unaffected.
The illustrious event, held at the Showgrounds in Clifden, draws legions of visitors worldwide. The rescheduled events are now expected to occur in Athenry, set for September.
According to Met Éireann’s forecast, the weather on Wednesday night will be wet and blustery with persistent heavy rain sweeping across the country from the west, potentially causing flooding. Weather improvement is expected on Thursday, yet a return to wet and windy conditions from the west is predicted to occur again in the evening, presenting a renewed risk of flooding.
