Connacht is known to be interested in offering Sam Prendergast a loan contract for the upcoming season. However, this lies in the balance as both the IRFU and the player himself have yet to make a final decision, due to Leinster’s reservations. Sam’s elder sibling Cian is a crucial part of Connacht’s backrow and with the recent ACL injury of JJ Hanrahan, the team from the western province is left seeking a replacement outhalf. After clinching the victory against the Dragons last month, 31-year-old Hanrahan is now slated for surgery and may miss a substantial part of the forthcoming season. Sam Prendergast, listed in the Leinster Academy and a commendable performer in last year’s Ireland Under-20 team, moved on to secure a senior contract for this season while still aged 21. During this campaign, Prendergast clocked up 14 provincial appearances, which included starting in three matches.
