Luca Ruggeri, Motoblog’s resident comic artist applied his wicked humor to this weekend’s World Superbike double header at Silverstone.
One of the best quotes was from Aprilia’s Gigi dall’Igna after Saturday’s Superpole when he matter of factly stated that the Ducati is running a 1200cc bike compared to their four cylinder 1000cc RSV4; as if they and no one else remembered this technical tidbit until this particular weekend.
Since Italians like to stir the pot and thrive on controversy, how about the replys that pitlane reporter from LA7 received from Max Biaggi and Marco Melandri immediately after race 2, of when he told them of Genesio Bevilacqua’s statement that Ducati is low on power and doesn’t have such an advantage.
Biaggi who suffered through race 1 with bent brake lever and a clutch problem, but in race 2 managed a 4th place ironically said, “What is this, a joke? Should I laugh? Their bike is so inferior that strangely enough it won today.
”Melandri, who took two 3rd place podiums was much more diplomatic, “It is certainly true, but they have other winning features.
A track is made up of two straights and lots of corners, maximum power is not always a determining value.
