In a welcome development, the captain of Ireland’s national football team, Séamus Coleman, declares his fitness and is ready to join Heimir Hallgrímsson’s crew for the impending Nations League ties against England and Greece to be held in Dublin next month.
Previous injury setbacks kept Coleman out of the action for 23 out of 40 games under Stephen Kenny’s management, but he has since overcome a calf problem. He recently played 67 minutes for his club Everton in their EFL Cup triumph over Doncaster on a Tuesday evening.
Young talent Evan Ferguson is also tipped to be included in the squad, following his recent bench appearance for Brighton and Hove Albion against Crawley Town. With an international career that already boasts three goals from 12 appearances, the youngster will bring a fresh dynamism to the Irish team.
However, the participation of Josh Cullen remains uncertain. The Burnley midfielder is dealing with an injury of unknown nature. Cullen’s availability depends on his performance in the upcoming Blackburn Rovers match, as suggested by his club manager, Scott Parker.
The Irish team is set to contest against England on Saturday, September 7th, and against Greece on Tuesday, September 10th. The Aviva Stadium in Dublin will host both showdowns.
