Stephen Chamberlain, who previously stood as a co-defendant with Mike Lynch in a fraud case in the USA, was tragically killed after being hit by a vehicle whilst jogging in Cambridgeshire, according to his legal representative.
Chamberlain, who held the position of vice-president of finance at the respected British software corporation, Autonomy, was struck on a Saturday morning and was then subsequently put on life support, as stated in a Reuters report.
In another unfortunate incident, Mike Lynch was labelled as missing following the sinking of a luxury yacht amidst a harsh storm near Sicily. The ship’s chef was confirmed deceased and an additional six individuals, amongst whom were Lynch and Hannah, his 18-year old daughter, were still untraceable as of Monday night.
Gary Lincenberg, Chamberlain’s attorney, shared the news of his client’s demise, stating that Chamberlain was “fatally struck” by a vehicle while on a run. Lincenberg paid tribute to his late client remarking, “A man of courage, his integrity was without parallel, and his absence will be deeply felt. He fiercely defended his reputation and leaves it as a legacy to his beloved family.”
After the fatal incident on Newmarket Road in Stretham village, local police in Cambridgeshire requested eyewitnesses to come forward. The authorities had previously disclosed that a man, aged in his 50s, was hospitalised due to serious injuries following the collision.
Chamberlain alongside Lynch stood trial together over allegations of fraud linked to Autonomy’s acquisition by Hewlett-Packard in 2011, at a price of $11 billion (€12.9 billion). Both men were accused of fraud and conspiracy on charges of manipulating the company’s value prior to its sale. However, in June, a San Francisco jury acquitted them on a total of 15 charges.
Following his tenure at Autonomy which ended in 2012, Chamberlain held COO position at cybersecurity company Darktrace and also volunteered his services as a finance director at Cambridge United, a football club in League One.
