This sculpture of a crucified woman, now on the external walls of the Synagogue of Pulheim, was commissioned for the Project Synagogue of Pulheim.
It will remain there until 10th August, but for many it’s just an eyesore and wished it away.
Maurizio Cattelan, the artist who created this piece of sculpture, is famous for his love of controversial art, but this poor crucified woman with her back to the public is moribundly disquieting.
The theme that should have inspired and informed the artwork was religion and the desperate fight against the power of death.
This work actually makes one think about torture or maybe it just seems to evoke something utterly grotesque.
