Catholic Influence on American Democratic Party

“Dear Editor,

The assertion made by Barry Walsh implying the abandonment of Catholic voters in America by the Democratic elite due to its shift towards the left on significant ethical matters (Letters, 13th of September), is up for contention.

Contrarily, the realistic view perceived by these voters shows that only through the strategic sway exerted by Donald Trump over the US Supreme Court can the mainstream Catholic principles be reintegrated into American societal practices.

When weighing up the issue of policy reversals, we cannot forget Mr Trump’s recent withdrawal of support for safeguarding abortion rights in Florida. This is an evident reaction to disapproval from his conventional base of followers.

Regrettably, the politics of the US and the rest of the world is a tricky business, equatable to supporting both sides of the fight – siding with the escaping quarry as well as the chasing pack.
