Connacht Rugby club has revealed that Cathal Forde, a talented rugby player, has renewed his contract for another two years. The Galway Corinthians member, who has been a significant feature in the team as an inside centre, is a shining example of talent emerging from the province’s academy. Forde’s early career was greatly recognised during his time with Ireland U20s in 2021.
Since his provincial debut in January 2022, the 22-year-old has clocked 23 appearances, impressing as a versatile player who can effectively cover outside centre and outhalf positions. According to head coach Pete Wilkins, Forde’s professionalism and talent added to his recommitment to Connacht, indicating a promising future at the club.
Statistic firm Opta released its annual top five inside centres rankings for the 2023 calendar year, where Forde achieved the third global ranking, with only Jordie Barrett and Bundee Aki, his Connacht teammate, outperforming him. Despite being the youngest player and the only non-international player mentioned, Forde outdid stalwarts like Josua Tuisova of Fiji and South Africa’s Damian de Allende.
Expressing his delight at extending his contract with his home club, Forde shared his optimism about the development of his gameplay at Connacht. Proudly associating with a talented group of players, Forde is committed to contributing to the overall success of the club.
