Casting Ballots on Saturdays and Sundays

Dear Editor,

Shouldn’t we consider conducting elections and referendums on Sundays to align with the practice in most of our contemporaries in Europe? This arrangement would offer a convenient chance for students to head back to their electoral districts, where many still hold registration. Furthermore, this could motivate those who have lately moved abroad to come back and participate in the voting process, analogous to the behaviour noticed in the same-sex marriage referendum. For those whose professional commitments necessitate travel on the customary election day, a Sunday ballot could prove quite accommodating. Additionally, this move would eradicate the need to shut down primary schools, hence preventing disruption to childcare services.

Yours faithfully,
