The last news that we heard from Casey Stoner was from his Repsol Honda blog where he updated fans on his post-surgery conditions.
The reigning World Champions was to undergo a further check-up on Thursday September 13th, but no further reports have been posted that can give us an idea when he’ll be able to return to action – however the Australian GP at Phillip Island in October seems to be the goal that the Australian has set for his comeback.
Stoner also posted that he would be attending the V8 Supercar race at Sandown for Dick Smith 500 and was again a guest of TeamVodafone, who let him test the Triple 8 Commodore last December at the Driving Centre at Norwell, Queensland.
The two-time MotoGP champion who will be retiring at the end of the season, has always been interested in driving Supercars as a second career, but he recently told the Australian media – who fuelled speculation that he could actually consider it as soon as 2013 after his personal sponsor Red Bull signed as the new title sponsor for Triple Eight Race Engineering’s Holden team last month – that he has no immediate plans, “Am I going to race V8s next year? No, I’m going to stay home and watch my little girl grow up for a while.
I want to enjoy that moment when you don’t have to go testing and prepare yourself perfectly for a race season.
I want to enjoy myself and be free.
Number one, I will enjoy my family and not have to stress about the next race.
”Speaking to speedcafe.
com, Stoner again confirmed his interest in the racing car series, “I’ve never tried to hide the fact that I want to race in V8 Supercars.
Since I was 12, I’ve always been interested, and it was always my plan during my whole career to drive a V8 and see what it was like.
I got my first opportunity last year, and it is definitely something that I’m interested in for the future.
It could become a new goal, a new chapter in my career, but I have to be realistic and see if we’re capable of doing anything.
”Stoner was described as ‘impressive’ after his four-wheel test.
Update:After we posted this story, Stoner’s Repsol Honda blog was updated, and the Australian now seems to be targeting the Motegi GP for his return.
Hi everyone,Not a whole lot to report this week I’m afraid.
I had a check up with the doctor last Thursday and he was happy with my recovery but we will know more in a couple of weeks, so no confirmed return date yet but I’m hoping for Japan.
I travelled down to Sandown for the V8’s this past weekend.
It was so good to get out and about again and the Triple Eight team did a great job taking 1st and 3rd! Now I’m back home taking it easy and resting waiting to see the doctor again.
I watched the MotoGP race in Misano, it was strange to watch it on TV but I guess it’s good practice for next year for me! I was sorry to see Dani have such issues at the beginning and then taken out.
It was really bad luck.
I hope to have more news next week and thanks for all your kind messages.
