Casey Stoner takes incredible pole position at Assen

Today’s MotoGP qualifying session at Assen seemed longer than the usual hour as it was interrupted twice due to rain, but when the track dried out for the second time, the time attack actually started it with four minutes left in the session, it was Repsol Honda’s Casey Stoner who with an incredible and stunning last lap flyer of 1’33″613 (he was 9th and 3rd until that moment) to take his third pole position of the season despite his precarious physical conditions after this morning’s highside.

Team mate Dani Pedrosa was second and 0.
115s adrift while Jorge Lorenzo took the third spot on the front row.
The surprise of the session was reigning Moto2 champion Stefan Bradl who claimed an impressive fourth and his best MotoGP qualifying position ever.
Cal Crutchlow jumped up to 5th on his lap.
Ben Spies fell back to sixth, followed by Andrea Dovizioso and Alvaro Bautista in 8th who crashed in the finale.
Ducati riders Nicky Hayden, Valentino Rossi and Hector Barbera were 9th, 10th and 11th respectively.
The fastest CRT rider was Randy De Puniet who finished ahead of team mate Aleix Espargaro.
