“Cannabis, Alcohol Worth €500,000 Seized”

This week, Dublin and Rosslare have seen a huge seizure of herbal cannabis and alcohol collectively valued at over €539,000. On Thursday, following risk profiling and the aid of a detector dog, the Revenue intercepted the illegal substances.

In Dublin, Revenue staff carried out an examination of parcels at a certain location, leading to the confiscation of 24 kgs of herbal cannabis, with a total estimated value of €480,000. These drugs were concealed in two parcels that had come from Spain and were being sent to addresses in Dublin.

In a separate operation on Wednesday, at Rosslare Europort, Revenue officials impounded 4,860 litres of illegal wine, worth around €59,200. The contraband red wine, labelled as Doppio Passo Primitivo Rosso 2022, was found during a search of a trailer accompanied by its driver who had just disembarked a ferry coming from Cherbourg, France. This discovery implies a potential loss to the Exchequer of more than €31,700.

The individual driving the trailer has been interrogated. Extensive investigations connected to both the cannabis and wine seizures are currently under progress.
