“Canadian Tourist’s Postmortem After Dublin Attack”

The final postmortem results for Canadian visitor, Neno Dolmajian, who tragically lost his life following an alleged attack in central Dublin this week, are still being awaited by the Gardaí. The outcome of these tests will guide the prosecution against the accused, Ionut Danca, a 24-year old man facing charges of assault resulting in harm, according to what was reported in Dublin District Court on Friday.

Mr Dolmajian, a 41-year old man from Montreal, was on holiday in Ireland when he was reportedly assaulted on Upper O’Connell Street at just past midnight on June 23rd. According to prior court hearings, it is alleged Mr Dolmajian engaged with a group of individuals on Cathal Brugha Street, which included Mr Danca. An ensuing conversation led to a disagreement, during which Mr Dolmajian was purportedly hit by a member of the group.

The group subsequently moved to O’Connell Street where a second interaction with Mr Dolmajian occurred. It is alleged that an individual from the group pushed Mr Dolmajian, followed by Mr Danca launching a “full force blow” to his face, described by Det Sgt Eoghan Byrne as a “battering blow delivered while running.”

Following the attack, Mr Dolmajian was brought to the hospital, where he remained unconscious until he passed away on Tuesday. Mr Danca, residing at Rathdown Square, North Circular Road in Dublin, is one of the four people detained in connection with the incident. He appeared in the Cloverhill court on Friday in a grey tracksuit facilitated by a Romanian translator.

Stephen O’Mahony, solicitor for Mr Danca, expressed the complexity of the case and mentioned that his client’s bail application had been rejected the previous week. Mr Danca, a construction worker, lost employment following his arrest. He currently continues to be in custody at Cloverhill Prison with no further bail application made on Friday.

Det Sgt Byrne provided an update confirming Mr Dolmajian’s demise whilst mentioning that the Gardaí is awaiting the postmortem outcome.

The matter’s course will be defined based on the postmortem results, Byrne informed the court. Mr O’Mahony’s application for legal aid was granted by Judge Alan Mitchell. Mr Mitchel also scheduled the case for July 30th and ordered for Mr Danca’s virtual court appearance via video link and also necessitated the presence of a Romanian translator.
