During my years residing in Zimbabwe, a system was in place for the collection and refund of glass bottles at grocery stores. A special hatch was designated for bottle return, where they were counted and a voucher was issued that could be spent within the store. Notably, no beverages were available in plastic containers. In a recent precedent-setting move, Ireland was the first nation globally to prohibit smoking in public areas. I would be filled with immense pride if Ireland continued this trend, becoming Europe’s initial country to outlaw plastic bottles and switch back to glass.
