The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) launched 23 searches in Donegal and Dublin on Wednesday morning, focusing on the possessions of alleged international drug distributors. Three inspections took place in Donegal, with additional ones conducted in Dublin, starting from approximately 6am. The assets targeted by the CAB encompassed a commercial property in Letterkenny and two residential properties in West Donegal.
Among the seized items were a 2023 Volvo XC90, roughly €73,000 in a bank account, electronic equipment, and financial paperwork. Over 70 members of the Garda and Customs departments participated in the 23 searches dispersed across Donegal and West Dublin.
According to a CAB representative, the criminal group under investigation operates all over Ireland, with significant connections to County Donegal, North Dublin, Scotland, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates. The operation forms part of an ongoing probe into the proceeds of crime, focusing on assets, including property, the representative explained.
The CAB representative further acknowledged the role of several reports from responsible citizens and the support of a divisional assets profiler in the investigation.
