Following his notable roles in productions like The Sopranos and Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, Steve Buscemi is preparing to take the stage at Abbey Theatre alongside Aidan Quinn. Buscemi’s appearance is part of the Love at First Sight series and they will perform Sam Shepard’s Ages of the Moon on the evening of Sunday, October 20th. Notably, Buscemi and Quinn share a professional past, having previously collaborated on Bette Gordon’s film, Handsome Harry in 2009.
The upcoming performance — selected by Quinn — centers on the reunion of two old friends. This marks the second part of the Love at First Sight series at Abbey, a special initiative that encourages actors to pick an appealing script and a role they’ve always dreamed of portraying, and subsequently give a live one-off performance on Abbey’s stage. The series was first launched with Fiona Shaw’s performance of Stefano Massini’s 7 Minutes earlier this month.
This stage appearance coincides with Buscemi’s time in Ireland, where he is currently involved in filming for the second season of the popular Netflix series, Wednesday, under the direction of Tim Burton.
