Two siblings, Glen Ward, 31, and Eric O’Driscoll, 22, suspected of firing assault rifles within a residential Dublin neighbourhood, have recalled their bail requests and will confirm later in the month whether they wish to proceed to court. They stand accused of possessing firearms and firing them recklessly during January 2022 in Finglas, with one accusations pinpointing Mr O’Driscoll’s possession of a military-grade submachine gun.
The pair had initially planned to request bail at the Special Criminal Court, a three-judge, non-jury court, on Monday. However, their solicitors informed the court they had decided against it. Mr Justice Tony Hunt granted Mr Ward and Mr O’Driscoll and their legal representation additional time to deliberate on their course of action. He mentioned that a court date in November was accessible, should they want it, and provided them until later on this month to provide an update.
Mr Ward, a Finglas resident, is facing charges related to possession of a .223 Remington AR-15 semi-automatic rifle, with the context suggesting illicit intentions, on the 1st of January, 2022, at Ratoath Drive in Finglas. On the same date at the same location, he is alleged to have fired a firearm recklessly, endangering others.
Likewise, Mr O’Driscoll, who also resides in Finglas, is facing similar charges as Mr Ward in addition to three more. Two of these are tied to the alleged possession of a .223 Remington AR-15 semi-automatic rifle at the same location, Ratoath Drive, but on the 9th of January, 2022. Another charge infers that on the same date he illegally possessed a .380 ACP calibre, Ingram M11 submachine gun, manufactured by the military armament corporation.
